I’m pretty particular so this be overly harsh, but here goes. I preferred nearly everything about the bag I bought in 2011. First, I liked being able to use the tarp liner as a gear divider and sort of as a side pocket inside the bag. This one is sewn in all the way around and much lighter weight. It feels thinner and less stiff. So much so that when the bag is not overly full, when I open the bag all I see is the liner material covering up my things. It seems like the liner is slightly larger than the bag and has some loose material. Second, I much, much, much preferred the original strap for two reasons. It was more comfortable and able to stow the stabilizer strap outside the bag underneath the Velcro strap. With the. Ew bag I haven’t yet figured out a way I like to keep the strap at bay until needed. I’ve just removed it and hope I don’t need it. Three, no pen/pencil holder outside the bag. Not one! Four, this bag doesn’t seem to hug my body like my old bag, maybe due to the strap. It just feels more bulky behind me. Five, I liked the old system to take up slack on the strap. I have the new slider style without the buckle and it just doesn’t seem to work as smoothly, or needs extra time to pull the tag and out, cinch down the strap, and tuck in the loose end. I’ll eventually have to find a solution because elastic has never lasted me very long.

bought one of these thinking it would be about the same as the old citizens despite having different pockets, but it's really not. probably gonna end up returning it and buying a used one. the magnetic pockets are a pain to get into and kinda useless for organization, and the laptop pocket takes up a huge amount of space and weight (and it's a mess bag, why does it need a laptop pocket?)

the liner isn't removable anymore, which is probably the worst part for me. not sure how they're justifying calling the new ones more functional when they've taken away so much functionality by doing this. or how the organization game is next level. they went from like 10 pockets to 4.

not a big fan of how the strap sits on my shoulder due to it being swappable, but that's minor.

still seems super well built, though. if you actually want all the things they've changed then i'm sure it's a great bag. swappable buckle's cool too; i'm a little sad i won't get to have that if i get a used bag.
